In order to prompt a more open debate about the plain packaging policy, JTI commissioned independent research company Forum to carry out three nationally representative opinions polls on the views of Canadians. Each survey has had a focus on a different area.
- The first survey focused on finding out the Canadian public’s awareness, views and opinions on plain packaging and the government’s consultation on it.
- The second survey focused on gaining more depth on the public’s awareness, views and opinions in relation to potential negative consequences associated with plain packaging. It also assessed whether they wanted more research and evidence on aspects like the potential rise in illegal sales and the sale to minors.
- The third survey, just completed, is focused on gaining more depth of insight into the public’s awareness, views and opinions in relation to the role of branding and packaging on tobacco and other products.
